Once upon a time there was a tower. One day some Jesuits who had decided to settle in the area decided to transform the old tower into a monastery, and to do so they enlarged and embellished it, so as to make it a worthy abode.
Years passed, time changed, the Jesuits went away and their monastery was purchased by a prince who changed it into a farm, fortified just in case – it might appeal to some brigand. The fact was that it was florid and rich, with a lot of land around it for growing crops and grazing animals. Sometimes the prince came out from the nearby town to spend some time on his country estate, bringing the family with him for a holiday. What better place?
There were woods and pools, hills and sharp mountains, a boundless sky over which the wind drove clouds like ships over a sea.
And it was a fabulous place too: often the prince’s children spent some time with the local peasants, who could tell stories of the ancients, treasures never found, mysterious and disturbing characters, brave warriors in enchanted fortresses.
What you have read so far is not the start of a fairytale, though all the ingredients are present, but the story of the Casale del Principe holiday farm, which opened a few mounths ago on the estate of the Prince of Camporeale in the heart of the valleyof the Jato, and enxhanting area not far from Palermo.
Here, amid the ruins of the ancient city of Ietas, the verdancy of protected areas, rows of vines whose products become more renowned every year, now as in the past you can spend beautiful holiday periods, immersing yourself in the nature and culture of an area which is not very well knouwn in the tourist circuits.
The holiday farm, whose main produce is cereals and excellent extra virgin olive oil (there is also fruit and vegetables, and a few farm animals are also raised), has preserved the old structure of the princely farm, with two inner courtyards on which there look out the various rooms, all characterised by elegance and comfort.
There are ten rooms, all en suite.
For guests’use there are mountain bikes, a restaurant and a play area for children.
You can also ride a horse or go for a walk along the many paths through the valley, and take part in courses on riding, ceramics, etc.
